📌 CONNECTORS IN ENGLISH

Los conectores son palabras o frases que nos ayudan a unir ideas y mejorar la fluidez del discurso. A continuación, te presentamos algunos de los conectores más comunes y su uso adecuado.

🔹 BASIC CONNECTORS (A1 – A2)

🟢 Addition (Añadir información)

• And → y
• Also → también, además
  • Uso 1: Al inicio de la oración, seguido de una coma.
    • I have finished my English class. Also, I have started a cooking course.
  • Uso 2: Antes del verbo principal.
    • I have finished my English class and I have also started a cooking course.
• Moreover / Furthermore → además, también (uso formal)
  • I have slept a lot. Furthermore, I have rested a lot.
• As well as → así como, también (se usa con sustantivos)
  • I talked about linking words as well as verbs in my book.
• Too → también (siempre va al final de la oración)
  • I like this too.
• As well → también (siempre al final de la oración)
  • We had such a good time together. Sometimes we had some fights as well.

🟠 Contrast (Contraste de ideas)

• But → pero
• However → sin embargo (al inicio de la oración, seguido de una coma)
  • I wanted to go out. However, it was raining.
• While / Whereas → mientras que (para contrastar dos ideas)
  • I study French while/whereas my boyfriend studies German.
• Although / Though → aunque (pueden ir al inicio o en medio de la oración, pero sin coma)
  • Although I was bored, I went to see my brother.
  • I went to see my brother though I was bored.
• In spite of / Despite → a pesar de (van seguidos de un sustantivo o gerundio, nunca de una oración completa)
  • Despite the rain, we played basketball.

❗ Importante: No confundir though (aunque) con thought (pasado de “think”).

🟡 Cause & Effect (Causa y consecuencia)

• Because → porque
• Because of → a causa de
  • Because of that, I didn’t go to the party.

🔹 CONNECTORS FOR ADVANCED LEVELS (B2 – C1)

🟢 Special Uses of “But”

• But también puede significar “sino” en algunas oraciones:
  • The girl doesn’t speak English, but French.
  • (La chica no habla inglés, sino francés.)

🟠 High-Level Contrast Connectors

• Even so → aun así
  • I don’t like running. Even so, I run every Saturday.
• Even though → aunque
  • Even though it was raining, we went outside.

🔵 Giving Opinions (Dar opiniones)

• In my opinion / In my view → en mi opinión
• I think that… → creo que…
• It’s true that… → es cierto que…
• Personally, → personalmente,
• To be honest, → para ser honesto,
• To tell the truth, → a decir verdad,

🟣 Examples (Dar ejemplos)

• Such as → como
• For instance → por ejemplo
• That is to say → es decir

🟡 Clarification (Aclaraciones)

• Actually → en realidad
• In fact → de hecho
• In other words → en otras palabras

🟠 Summarizing (Resumir ideas)

• In short → en resumen
• Above all → sobre todo
• All in all → en general
• At least → al menos
• Basically → básicamente
• Especially → especialmente
• Essentially → esencialmente
• In general → en general
• In particular → en particular
• More or less → más o menos
